What is the Energy Hierarchy

The energy hierarchy is a calculation based on the minimum requirements under Part L2 building regulations followed on with improvement factors to the building bringing it inline with the local authorities requirements.
These are typically known as Lean, Clean and Green calculations

What is a Energy statement
An Energy Statement is a technical report commonly required by local planning authorities to demonstrate how a proposed development will minimise energy consumption, reduce carbon emissions and incorporate low-carbon or renewable technologies.
The report provides a clear energy strategy for the development and demonstrates how the proposed design responds to relevant local planning policies, Building Regulations and carbon-reduction targets.
What Does an Energy Statement Include?

Energy Efficiency
Assessment of how energy demand is reduced through the building's design, including improvements to the building fabric, insulation, glazing, airtightness, lighting, controls and energy-efficient building services.
Low-Carbon Building Services
Consideration of efficient heating, cooling and ventilation technologies, including air-source heat pumps, high-efficiency HVAC systems and heat recovery, where appropriate.

Renewable Energy
Assessment of suitable renewable-energy technologies, such as solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, to further reduce grid energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Carbon Emissions & Primary Energy
Calculation of the building's predicted regulated carbon emissions and primary energy demand, demonstrating performance against the relevant targets and identifying the improvement achieved through the proposed energy strategy.

Sustainability Measures
Where required by the local planning authority, the Energy Statement may also consider wider sustainability measures, including water efficiency, responsible material selection and other measures designed to improve the long-term environmental performance of the development.
